Why To Stop Palm Oil  — The Real Reasons

The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil but because of those who look on and do nothing

Seeing sad videos passing by on Facebook, paper articles with painful photos and hearing activists talking about these problems on TV. Still, how much attention are we exactly paying to this terrible situation?
Reading the first sentences you probably want this skip this blog post and continue to something else but I think you should continue reading because this is an important topic that we need to talk about.
With this post I’m going to push you into the right direction with information and advice, I’ll keep it short and interesting. Promise;-).

To start with… palm oil is extracted from the pulp of the orange red palm fruit. This happens especially in Malaysia and Indonesia. Another kind that palm oil supplies, is the coyolpalm. Palm oil contains a high percentage of saturated fats and antioxidants. Because palm oil is relatively cheap, it is used endless in food, personal care products and biodiesel.

Did you know… that they even use palm oil for almost all chocolate? Ever noticed that it takes time before the chocolate melts in between your fingers? That’s the effect of palm oil… solution? Try some fair chocolate like Tony’s Chocolonely :Biologic, slavery- and palm oil free!

Talking about this issue, I want to let you know that I sincerely care about this and that I’m learning every day. It might happen that I use products, without knowing, with palm oil. I don’t say you need to use palm oil free products, but I think it’s important that you have knowledge about it and you can start somewhere. Like I’m doing right now.

  1. Inform yourself, organizations like WWF want to change things, replacing the palm oil with other alternatives so people won’t lose their job and animals can live in their natural habitats.
  2. Talk about it! That’s one way to get information, also don’t be afraid to speak to the producers if you notice they use ingredients of palm oil.
  3. Think twice when buying products, if you’re not sure about it read the label.
    Try new products:
    —> Weleda
    —> Babongo
Or follow bloggers who are on it 24/7 telling you everything about pure products.
    —> Recycle Kid
  4. Sign petitions, it only takes 1 minute of your time. You help organizations like Greenpeace a lot with it! Like I said… It isn’t easy since there are a lot of product names that are been used for palm oil. Here’s a list of ingredients that come from palm oil.
